VAUXHALL FRONTERA: FIRST CAR TO ACHIEVE ELECTRIC & INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE PRICE PARITY

Vauxhall has announced that both the New Frontera Electric and the New Frontera Hybrid will be available at the same list price. This is a significant move in the UK car market, as it eliminates the usual price difference between electric and petrol versions of the same car for the first time.

Typically, the average price difference between an electric and a petrol car is around 31%. However, with the New Frontera, both the electric and petrol hybrid versions will start at £23,495 OTR when orders open in the autumn.

James Taylor, Managing Director at Vauxhall, commented: "Vauxhall is leading the way in democratising access to electric vehicles, whether through our Electric Streets campaign to accelerate on-street charging infrastructure, our latest PCP offers with equivalent monthly payments between electric and petrol models, or our affordable new special editions - the Corsa Electric YES Edition, Mokka Electric Griffin and Astra Electric Griffin. With the launch of the New Frontera, Vauxhall has eliminated the list price premium that often applies to electric vehicles, with both electric and petrol hybrid versions offered for an identical list price. At just £23,495, New Frontera Electric is a significant milestone in our mission to make electric mobility accessible for everyone across the UK."

Exterior

The New Frontera features a rugged take on Vauxhall’s Bold and Pure design philosophy. The front end showcases Vauxhall’s distinctive Vizor, seamlessly integrating with the signature LED headlamps. With prominent wheel arches and sills, as well as an eye-catching C-pillar design, the Frontera has a robust character. Measuring 4,380mm in length, it fits between the Mokka (4,151mm) and the All-New Grandland (4,650mm) in Vauxhall’s SUV lineup. Despite its comparable length to an Astra hatchback, the New Frontera offers more boot space with the rear seats down than the Astra Sports Tourer Electric (1,594 litres).

From launch, the New Frontera will be available in two trim levels. The entry-level Design models come with 16-inch black steel wheels with wheel arch cladding, automatic headlights and wipers, and stylish black grained bumpers. An optional white roof with 16-inch white steel wheels is also available.

GS models feature aerodynamic 17-inch alloy wheels, body-coloured bumpers, and a silver skid plate. These variants also include a black roof with tinted rear windows, LED taillights, and power-folding mirrors.

Interior

The modern design extends to the spacious and comfortable interior. The Pure Panel cockpit includes a newly designed steering wheel and two 10-inch widescreens, along with physical buttons for key functions for a practical, driver-friendly experience. Standard features include satellite navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay™/Android Auto™, and wireless smartphone charging.

The New Frontera optimizes its interior space with clever storage solutions, 60:40 split second-row seats, and a two-level boot floor. Despite a footprint similar to the Astra hatchback, the Frontera offers greater boot capacity with the rear seats folded than the Astra Sports Tourer Electric (1,594 litres). The boot capacity is 460 litres with the rear seats up.

Design models come standard with several driver assistance features, including rear parking sensors, a rear-view parking camera, cruise control with a speed limiter, lane keep assist, traffic sign recognition, and driver attention alert.

GS models build on the Design specification with electronic climate control and Intelli-Seat front seats featuring a specific cushion design that reduces pressure on the tailbone. These models also include front parking sensors, blind spot alert, and an electro-chromatic rear-view mirror. Hybrid GS models offer an optional seven-seat configuration with adjustable headrests and a ‘fold and tumble’ seat mechanism for easy access to the third row.

The optional Comfort Pack, available for GS models, adds features like heated seats, a heated windscreen, a heated steering wheel, and roof rails with a 240kg load capacity.

Efficient and Modern Powertrains

The New Frontera is available as either a petrol hybrid with 48-volt technology or a fully electric powertrain. The New Frontera Hybrid combines a 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with a 21kW (28hp) electric motor integrated into the six-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, providing significant CO2 savings compared to a traditional petrol engine.

The hybrid powertrain comes with either a 100hp engine developing 205Nm of torque or a 136hp engine with 230Nm of torque. The electric motor enhances acceleration at low engine speeds, with the 100hp model reaching 0-62mph in 11 seconds and the 136hp version in nine seconds. The top speeds are 112mph and 118mph, respectively, with both engines producing 120g/km of CO2.*

For the same list price as the petrol hybrid, the New Frontera is also available with an efficient 113hp electric motor, based on the new Stellantis ‘Smart Car’ BEV-native platform. The electric version offers a range of 186 miles (WLTP provisional) from the 44kWh battery, providing optimal comfort and zero-emissions driving for the same price as the hybrid. With a 100kW rapid charger, the Frontera Electric can charge from 20-80% in just 26 minutes. It accelerates from 0-62mph in 12.1 seconds and reaches a top speed of 87mph.*

From next year, a ‘Long Range’ version of the Frontera Electric will be available, offering up to 248 miles on a single charge (WLTP provisional).

Plug & Go, Powered by Free2move Charge

In addition to price parity between the electric and petrol hybrid models, Vauxhall's Plug & Go offer, powered by Free2move Charge, makes switching to electric even more accessible. Free2move Charge is part of the Free2move brand within the broader Stellantis group, offering innovative mobility solutions. In partnership with Octopus Energy, it provides flexible and advanced charging options, allowing customers to charge their vehicles whenever and wherever needed.

To simplify home charging, customers can choose a free Octopus Energy Ohme Pro wallbox and installation when buying online. This includes access to Intelligent Octopus Go, an energy tariff specifically designed for EV drivers, that charges vehicles when it is cheapest and greenest, ensuring a fixed six-hour window to charge at the lowest rates overnight. Vauxhall customers can connect to Intelligent Octopus Go through the Octopus Energy app and set their vehicle's charge level, with Octopus automatically scheduling the charge for when energy is most economical and environmentally friendly.

Through Vauxhall's partnership with Tesco, customers also have the option of one year's free charging credit at stores across the country1, instead of the free wallbox. Additionally, customers can earn 50,000 Tesco Clubcard points when purchasing a new car through a Vauxhall retailer2. These points can be exchanged for £500 in Clubcard vouchers for use in-store or for £1,000 in value with more than 100 Clubcard Reward Partners.

To further facilitate public charging, all new Vauxhall electric vehicle customers receive an Octopus Electroverse card, granting access to over 750,000 public chargers across the UK and Europe through a single account. Instead of the free wallbox or free charging at Tesco stores, customers can opt for a £675 credit with Octopus Electroverse via Plug & Go.

For added reassurance, Plug & Go includes an eight-year/100,000-mile battery warranty and three years of roadside assistance as standard.
