Family Fund Mobility Support

Family Fund Mobility Support is a car-lease scheme provided by Family Fund and Motability.The scheme helps families raising a disabled or seriously ill child under three years old meet their mobility needs. 

​What can be applied for? 

The Family Fund Mobility Support scheme provides families with a discretionary grant to lease a car through Motability Operations Limited, until the child turns three years old. 

Once a child turns three and if they continue to require mobility support, the family can then apply for the high rate mobility component of DLA and consider lease options through the Motability scheme.

Who can apply?

The scheme is only open to families who have a child under three years of age who meet the Family Fund disability eligibility criteria and the Family Fund household criteria.

In addition to meeting the Family Fund criteria, your child must also have one of the following:

• A need for substantial equipment due to their conditions or treatment (such as a mobility aid, require regular oxygen or suction machine or require other bulky monitoring or medical equipment), or
• An immune suppressing condition or treatment resulting in medical emergency and prohibits travelling on public transport, or
• High levels of pain or physical condition that impacts their mobility needs, or
• An unstable condition requiring frequent unexpected emergency inpatient treatment, or
• A significant number of appointments on a frequent basis at multiple different treatment centres, related to their condition.

Families must also be able to say yes to the following:

• The parent or carer, or someone involved in the child’s care, has a current UK driving licence.
• Nobody else in the household already claims the mobility element of Disability Living Allowance (DLA) or Personal Independence Payments (PIP) and is using their Mobility component to lease a vehicle though the Motability scheme.
