With improved specifications over design trim, the special edition Griffin enhances the Astra’s striking appearance with tinted rear windows and roof rails on the Sports Tourer. Inside, the driver and front passenger benefit from heated seats, while the driver’s seat features a highly ergonomic design certified by AGR (Germany’s ‘Campaign for Healthier Backs’). The steering wheel is also heated, while interior tech has been enhanced with wireless smartphone charging and a rear view 180o camera to complement the front and rear parking sensors.
The Astra Griffin models offer a range of connectivity features as standard. Vauxhall’s Multimedia Pure Panel infotainment system has a ten-inch colour touchscreen, compatible with Wireless Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™, and a ten-inch digital instrument cluster. Benefitting from Vauxhall Connect, Astra Electric Griffin customers are able to remotely schedule charging and pre-condition the vehicle’s cabin temperature.
Completing the offering, Griffin models feature LED headlights, tail lights, and daytime running lights with high beam assist, plus an array of driver-assistance tech. This includes adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning with lane keep assist, traffic and speed sign recognition, and automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection.
The Astra Electric Griffin is powered by a 54kWh lithium-ion battery providing a range of up to 258 miles (WLTP), paired with an electric motor producing 156PS and 270Nm of torque. Charging the Astra Electric is quick and simple, with a 20-80% charge taking just 26 minutes on a 100kW rapid DC charger. An 11kW onboard charger is fitted as standard, enabling a 0-100% charge in 5 hours 45 minutes from an 11kW public charger. Alternatively, a 0-100% charge via a domestic 7kW wall box will take 8 hours.
With both hatchback and Sports Tourer Electric models available, the new entry-point to the Astra Electric line-up features an enhanced specification and offers savings of £2,800 over Design trim, with prices starting at £34,995 OTR.
The Astra Griffin is also available with a 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol unit, producing 130PS and 230Nm of torque and paired with a six-speed manual gearbox. Starting at £24,795 OTR, Griffin reduces the entry point to the Astra range by £2,775, while also offering additional features compared to Design trim.
For customers purchasing on finance, monthly payments for the Astra Griffin are lower compared to Design trim. Despite this new lower entry point to the Astra line-up, customers can still enjoy monthly price parity between petrol and electric versions thanks to Vauxhall’s innovative five-year PCP offer on electric models. With an equal customer deposit of £2,000, the Astra Electric Griffin is available for £399 per month over five years, compared to £399 per month for the equivalent petrol model over four years. These prices do not include the savings that most EV drivers enjoy, including a lower energy cost per mile (especially when charging on a specific EV tariff at home), lower maintenance costs, and an exemption from Vehicle Excise Duty and congestion charging at the present time.
For added peace of mind, Vauxhall offers a battery warranty for eight years/100,000 miles and three years of roadside assistance as standard.
Orders for the special-edition Astra Griffin, Astra Electric Griffin, and Astra Sports Tourer Electric Griffin are open now, with first deliveries of electric models from August and the petrol variant following in November. The reveal of the Astra Electric Griffin follows the Corsa Electric YES Edition and Mokka Electric Griffin, with the new limited edition models making Vauxhall’s electric range more accessible. By the end of 2024, Vauxhall will offer a fully electric version of every car and van model in its line-up.
