Latest News, Model Updates and Additions
“Like its bigger sibling, the Zafira, the Meriva has a flexible interior, named FlexSpace. Although it ony has five seats in two rows, the second row can be moved forward and backwards, or pushed into the floor, making a straight platform for increased boot space. The second row can accommodate two or three passengers. In the two-passenger mode, the seats are separated from the doors and from each other much like the front seats. In three-passenger mode the back seat looks like a regular one piece seat. The front seat can be pushed fully backwards while the rear passengers can still get more than a decent amount of leg room. It has a generous boot space that can be further extended pushing the back seats into the floor.”
“An all new Meriva is expected to debut late 2009 as a 2010 model based on the SCCS version of the GM Gamma platform. A concept car named “Meriva Concept” was presented at the 2008 Geneva Motorshow, showing the styling direction and the 2nd generation will take.”

“The Meriva is a supermini sized people carrier that rivals the likes of the Nissan Note with a practical and flexible interior and plenty of cabin space. It’s quite a compact package which makes it easy to manouvre around town but while the tall shape means there’s good headroom.”
“The Meriva borrows its engines from the Astra and Corsa, and the petrol line-up consists of a 90bhp 1.4-litre, 100bhp 1..6-litre and a 125bhp 1.8-litre engine.”
“As part of a facelift in 2006 the 1.6-litre engine was boosted to 105bhp (thanks to the introduction of a Twinport engine) and this peppy engine is the pick of the range.”
“Initially the only diesel was the 1,.7 CDTi with 00bhp which is quiet enough on the move, however a smaller 1.3 CDTi was introduced in 2006 and this offers stronger performance than it’s modest 75bhp output suggests. It feels eager on the road and can average an impressive 57mpg.”
“Safe to drive and comfortable, the Meriva is good around town thanks to decent visibility (although the front pillars can be restrictive) and due to its small dimensions and it is easy to parallel park too.”
“The soft ride makes it an ideal car for motorway trips and it soaks up potholes and rough road surfaces well.”
“The Meriva isn’t actually as small as you may think and thanks to a clever rear seating system called FlexSpace, the middle seat can be folded away allowing the two outer chairs to slide inward and backwards to provide huge amounts of legroom.”
“The Meriva’s main strength is its versatility.. All three rear seats can be moved independantly of each other to increase boot capacity and when needed they fold flat into the floor for a good sized load area – the front passenger seat can also be folded fown for extra load carrying. It may lack the seven seats of the larger Zafira but the rear chairs are more straightforward to use.”
“The Meriva gained a four-star Euro NCAP crash-test rating, which is on par with rivals like the Nissan Note. All models have ABS with electronic brake-force distribution and dual front airbags as standard plus deadlocks, remote central locking and Isofix mountings on outer rear seats. Extra airbags are optional as is Adaptive Forward Lightning, which angles the headlamps to give improved visibility when turning corners.”
